Matcha is a gorgeous, vibrant green drink with lots of health benefits. The only issue is the long prep time.
If you're new to drinking matcha you may not know, that the traditional method for making matcha is with a whisk. But what happens if you don't have one, can you make matcha without a whisk?
The recommend method for making matcha from a powder is with a chasen. A chasen , a.k.a a bamboo whisk, is an intricate tool carved out of a single piece of bamboo.
Chasens are very delicate and need a lot of care before and after use.
It needs to be soaked before use to avoid any breakage and after to clean it. Once cleaned, the chasen needs to be carefully dried on a stand to avoid any change in shape and to stop mould growth.

So what happens if your whisk breaks or maybe you even just want to avoid the hassle of having to use one to start with..
Can you make matcha without a whisk?
The answer is yes, you can make matcha without a whisk and there are a couple of methods how you can.
1. Milk Frother
Firstly, you could use a milk frother - hand held or large heated one.
Simply add your matcha powder and some hot water and whisk it up.
Although both will get the job done the results can be messy, more watery and not as rich and frothy.
2. Glass Jar
Another, slightly unusual, method if you are making matcha without a whisk , is with a glass jar.
Add hot water and matcha powder to the jar and shake!
This is a slightly tiring and annoying way of making matcha, but a still gets the job done.
3. Nespresso Compatible Matcha Pods
The best results of making matcha without a whisk is to use Rejuvenation water's Nespresso compatible matcha pods.
You can get perfect, frothy matcha every time, all with out any work and hassle.
Plus as each matcha pod is fully compostable, there is no need to worry about the pod ending up in landfill - like 29,000 aluminium pods do every month!
Each pod is filled with a high quality, organic Japanese matcha and 8 added B -vitamins. Meaning unlike regular matcha powder, you are not only receiving all the health benefits of the matcha but extra ones from the B - vitamins.

Why do you need to whisk matcha?
Matcha is a fine green powder. To encourage the powder to fully dissolve into the water, usually a whisk is needed. Whisking matcha also helps to incorporate air into the matcha to create a foamy texture.
This is also why rejuvenation water's Nespresso compatible matcha pods are good, because as the matcha powder goes through the Nespresso machine it naturally helps the matcha powder dissolve and foam up.
Unlike doing this by hand, and with the same amount of matcha in each pod, you can rely on the machine producing a perfect foamy espresso every time.
