Gordon Ramsay's Future Food Stars is the hit BBC business series in which 12 food & drink entrepreneurs fight it out for Gordon Ramsay's investment. With a variety of food & drink businesses from Tacos and Blondies to Matcha tea, each week at least one contestant goes home.
Launching on Thursday 30th March on BBC1 & iplayer, there are 8 episode spread over 8 Thursdays.
But what is the matcha from Gordon Ramsay Future Food Stars?
First of all, let's start with what is matcha?
Matcha's popularity has exploded over recent years as this bright green tea is packed full of health benefits and works as a great alternative to coffee.
Matcha is a Japanese Green tea that is packed full of antioxidants as well as natural green caffeine that releases slowly to give sustained energy.
Farmer grow the tea leaves in much the same way to regular tea but, in the last 30 days of growth, farmers cover the plants, starving them of sunlight. Plants react by over producing chlorophyll. This chlorophyll leads to an increase in phytonutrients, in particular amino acids, giving matcha significantly more benefits than regular tea.
What are the benefits of Matcha?
Most of the benefits of matcha come from the high L-theanine, a healthy amino-acid, content.
Benefits include:

- Increased production of inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitters, such as GABA, serotonin, and dopamine
- Decreased excitatory neurotransmitters
