What is ketosis?
The Ketogenic (keto) diet is a low carbohydrate, high fat and moderate protein diet.
This drastic reduction in carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat, puts the body in a metabolic state called ketosis.
This then makes your body more efficient at burning fat for energy plus, in the liver fat is converted into ketones which can supply energy for the brain.
All of this then causes weight loss and a reduction in blood sugar and insulin levels, which reduces the risk of diabetes, cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease.
However, these benefits come from a 'clean' version of the diet and even then people have reported having flu like symptoms (aka keto flu) a few weeks into the diet.
The diet can be very tough to follow. However, with some tips and tricks to help you get started the whole journey can seem less daunting and more achievable.
Does caffeine stop ketosis?
Although caffeine doesn't stop ketosis, the bitter taste of coffee, or other caffeinated beverages like matcha lattes, causes people to add sugar to them. This will mean you stop ketosis and will contribute to your net carbs for the day.
This is one of the benefits of rejuvenation waters keto coffee pods as they contain MCT oil.
Not only does this addd a slight coconut flavour that sweetens the bitter coffee taste, but also MCT helps the body get into a state of ketosis and acts as instant fast acting energy.
Keto coffee pods are simple and easy to use as they already have the MCT oil blended into them. This means unlike bulletproof coffees, you don't have yo blend the MCT oil in your self. Simply pop your keto coffee pod in your Nespresso machine and enjoy a creamy keto coffee.
Our Nespresso ket coffee pods have about 64mg of caffeine in them, however if you are caffeine sensitive we now sell a decaf keto coffee pod version, so you can enjoy the great taste and health benefits of our keto coffee pods, without the caffeine.
Does coffee break intermittent fasting?
Whether you're starting your day with a full breakfast, or you have limited time and need a grab and go one, a bulletproof coffee should be a staple to your morning.
Not only is keto coffee suitable for those following the keto diet, but it’s also ideal if you’re intermittent fasting, eating one meal a day (OMAD), or you’re trying to lose weight.
This is because it contains no carbohydrates, so it doesn’t ‘wake up’ your metabolism. Instead, your body remains in a fasted state (also known as ketosis).
Many people enjoy bulletproof coffee for breakfast so they can fast for as long as possible.
